INTRO

The World Expo (World Fair) is an event in which participating countries come together and build pavilions to showcase themselves to the world. In 2010 the World Expo was held in Shanghai, China and was the largest ever, by the end of the Expo over 73 million people had visited. However, there were still many more that were unable to attend.

CHALLENGE

Showcasing the exhibitions allowing users to experience the Shanghai Expo without leaving the comfort of their own home.

SOLUTION

By using multiple realistic flythrough animations, embeded into an interactive Flash platform, users are able to explore and experience the pavilions at their own pace, avoiding queues, travel time and expenses. They are even provided with a complimentary tour guide from the lovable Shanghai Expo’s mascot, Haibao, who entertains the users and is gifted with the ability of being fluent in multiple langauges. The doors to the online pavilions are still open long after Shanghai Expo closed!

ROLE

I was responsible for preparing and presenting concept/design briefs; Defining project objectives in detail, analyzing customers to determine the workflow, target audience and strategy to reach and engage them; Identifying the resources involved, timeline, approval process, deliverables and milestones;

Exploring solutions, from card sorting, sitemaps and functionality matrixes to wireframes, user scenario reports and interactive prototypes, to define the design and functionality;

Managing the design and development teams of around 30 artists, ensuring that the clients and our QA standards are met; Managing communications with the government agencies, maintaining a constant dialogue to ensure a common understanding of the project and updating them to any delays, changes, or schedule issues;

HIGHLIGHTS

+ 700,000 visits in the first month
+ More than 2,000,000 visits in the first three months
+ The Saudi Arabia Pavilion was so successful the Chinese government requested Crystal CG recreate the Chinese online pavilion using the same concept.

INTRO

In Winter 2010, my friends at 3RUN and Design By JMP came to me with an interesting idea. 3RUN had already grown from a local team to world renowned free running experts and wanted to take it a step further by developing a lifestyle brand.

CHALLENGE

How to transform a niche free running team into a lifestyle brand to compete with the likes of Quicksilver, Animal and Burton?

SOLUTION

Cooperating with Design By JMP, our solution was to establish 3RUN as a symbol for everything that free running stands for; passion, dedication, emotion, belonging and movement. And encapsulate these elements into their new online presence without the use of Flash so it could be viewed on mobile devices, for those, like 3RUN, are always on the go.

ROLE

We worked directly with 3RUN and lead the whole campaign to transform their entire online presence! We developed the strategy, concept and execution.

HIGHLIGHTS

+ 704,539 visits in the first year
+ 3RUN’s latest show reel has had 640,899 (and counting)
+ Sales have increased 300% since the transformation
